Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is the statutory title of qualified accountants in the United States who have passed the Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination and have met additional state education and experience requirements for certification as a CPA. Individuals who have passed the Exam but have not either accomplished the required on-the-job experience or have previously met it but in the meantime have lapsed their continuing professional education are, in many states, permitted the designation "CPA Inactive" or an equivalent phrase. In most U.S. states, only CPAs who are licensed are able to provide to the public attestation (including auditing) opinions on financial statements. The exceptions to this rule are Arizona, Kansas, North Carolina and Ohio where, although the "CPA" designation is restricted, the practice of auditing is not. Many states have a lower tier of accountant qualification (below that of CPA), usually entitled "Public Accountant" (with designatory letters "PA"). However the majority of states have closed the designation "Public Accountant" to new entrants, with only about 10 states continuing to offer the designation. Many PAs belong to the National Society of Accountants. Many states prohibit the use of the designations "Certified Public Accountant" or "Public Accountant" (or the abbreviations "CPA" or "PA") by a person who is not certified as a CPA or PA in that state. As a result, in many circumstances, an out-of-state CPA is restricted from using the CPA designation or designators letters until a license or certificate from that state is obtained. Texas additionally prohibits the use of the designations "accountant" and "auditor" by a person not certified as a Texas CPA, unless that person is a CPA in another state, a non-resident of Texas, and otherwise meets the requirements for practice in Texas by out-of-state CPA firms and practitioners. Many other countries also use the title CPA to designate local public accountants. From Wikipedia under the

CPA Answered by - Sat Dec 16 14:35:57 2006 CPA Candidate, should I pass the exam first then look for a job at Big 4 since their interview exams hard?
Q. I am an admin. assistant in corporate office for one of the biggest hotel chains. For ten years, my duties have been engaged with reviewing financial reports (P&L), as well as handling billings and invoicing. These responsibilities is what prompted me to go back to school, I just finished my Master's in Accounting (Dec. 2010). I am aiming to work for one of the Big 4 Firms but I see that you really have to prepare yourself for the interview process and for their exams. Now I am thorn, I need help which one should I do first - on whether should I finish taking the CPA exam since I already took my first one which is Audit (don't know my score yet) or should I look for an accounting job? Asked by A a - Sun Mar 13 20:02:44 2011 - Financial Services - 2 Answers - Comments A. I'm not sure which interview exams you're referring to. I have worked at a big 4 firm for years now, and we do not give entry exams, It just a series of thorough interviews . First round is usually with campus recruiter/ one to two people if you experienced. 2nd round is usually back to back interviews with three or four different people, The big 4 will pay for your CPA exam as well as give you a bonus for successfully completing all sections within your first year. So, again, there is no entry exam, at least not at the Big 4 . Def take the exam, because once you join it will be difficult to find time to study due to the demanding schedule. With your experience, I doubt you'll have a hard time landing a job. The firms look for well rounded… [cont.] Answered by Nuru - Mon Mar 14 00:39:33 2011 From Yahoo Answer Search: "cpa exams" |
